Our Build Process

From Initial Conversation to Completed Build

Designing and building a bespoke canal boat is an exciting journey. From your first conversation with us through to final testing and handover, we work closely with you at every stage to ensure your boat is engineered around your individual requirements.

A Collaborative Engineering Process

Every FP Technologies boat begins with a conversation, not a catalogue. We take the time to understand how you intend to use your boat before developing a bespoke design that reflects your ideas, practical requirements and preferred style.

Throughout the project you’ll remain closely involved, with opportunities to review the design, visit the workshop and follow the build as your boat takes shape.

Initial Conversation

Initial Conversation

Every project begins with an informal discussion to understand your ideas, intended use and the features you’re looking for. This allows us to provide initial guidance and explain how HDPE construction can be tailored to your requirements.

Workshop Visit

Workshop Visit

We invite you to visit our workshop to see our manufacturing process first-hand, meet the team and gain a better understanding of how your boat will be designed and constructed.

Cad Design

CAD Design

Using advanced CAD software, we develop your boat’s layout and structural design. This allows every aspect of the project to be carefully considered before construction begins.

3d Printed Model

3D Printed Model

To help bring your ideas to life, we produce a physical 3D-printed model of the proposed design. Seeing the boat in three dimensions often makes it easier to visualise the final result and discuss any refinements before manufacture begins.

Design Approval

Design Approval

Once the design has been refined, we provide the relevant drawings for your review. We continue working with you until you’re completely satisfied and ready to move forward.

Build Begins

Construction

With the design approved, manufacturing begins. Precision CNC machining, structural fabrication and plastic welding are combined to produce a robust HDPE shell engineered for long-term performance.

Testing & Compliance

Testing & Compliance

Before handover, every boat undergoes comprehensive testing and inspection. We also prepare the relevant documentation and compliance records to provide complete confidence in the finished build.

Engineering the Future of Inland Waterways

FP Technologies are committed to advancing inland waterways through innovative materials, precision engineering and modern manufacturing techniques.

If you're planning a new canal boat, we’d welcome the opportunity to discuss your requirements and explain how HDPE construction differs from traditional materials. We can advise on hull design, construction methods and the long-term performance benefits of a modern, low-maintenance engineering solution.
